I spent quite some time in my life experimenting with ink on paper, willing images to emerge as I covered the smooth surface of the canvass before me with ink, guided by my expert hand. these experiments resulted in a series of works nicknamed, Stains (Macchie). In The Bishop (Il Vescovo) I added nothing to this stain, as when I was finished the angular profile of a bishop with his unmistakable mitre and goatee beard stared up at me from the paper, with a key hanging from his neck: the key to knowledge, the key to paradise, who knows…
